Haricot Gallery is thrilled to present As If the Ground Remembered, a group exhibition running from the 4th of September until the 3rd of October 2026. The exhibition brings together the work of Jonathan McCree, Mary Herbert, Roudhah Al Mazrouei, Gill Rocca, Joe Grieve, Nathan Harbonn Viaud, and Joshua Raz.

‘As If the Ground Remembered’ is built on the idea landscape is never neutral. Looked at closely enough, it carries what has been and what is yet to come. The show brings together artists who, rather than treating land as scenery or setting, approach it as something closer to an archive. For them, a landscape isn't just something to look at, it's something that holds history, memory, and meaning beneath its surface, and their paintings try to uncover that, rather than simply record how a place looks.

Whether painted from direct observation, half-remembered, or entirely imagined, each landscape passes through memory or invention before it reaches the canvas. What holds the show together isn't a shared place, but a shared way of arriving at one.
