Breeze Blocks

26/07/24 - 17/08/24
Haricot Gallery is delighted to present ‘Breeze Blocks,’ a duo show featuring Jonathan McCree and Andrew Graves.

Breeze Blocks, also known as cinder blocks, are rectangular concrete blocks primarily used in construction, and are commonly used for building foundations. Architectural forms play a significant role in the practices of both artists. Jonathan McCree works with traditional notions of architecture but also with the architecture of the body and the mind. With references to the historical, the biographical and the quotidian, McCree's work reflects a series of moments, the concept of potential, a space where anything can happen. Andrew Graves constructs vibrant compositions of colour and form that explore both interior and exterior concepts of architecture. He is interested in the idea of transience, creating forms that are cloudy and nebulous, making them difficult to describe. This approach allows his work to remain spacious, open, and playful.

Breeze Blocks celebrates the foundational aspects of the artists' practices through their works on paper. These pieces serve as the starting point for their practice, informing and pushing the boundaries of their artistic pursuits. This exhibition showcases these foundational works, which shape and define the artists identities.
