You Can't Always Get What You Want
06/10/23 - 04/11/23
Haricot Gallery is pleased to present, ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ a group show featuring: Constance Read, Max Boyla, Cherry Aribisala, Ekene Stanley, Lucienne O’Mara, Sophie Percival, Ana Benavides and Yaron Meyer.
In a society defined by relentless desires and insatiable aspirations, this exhibition challenges the notion that we can always obtain what we seek. ‘You Can't Always Get What You Want’ brings together these eight artists whose works on canvas and sculptures explore the intricate dance between human desire and the reality of attainment.
For this exhibition, each artist has been carefully selected for their unique capacity to draw profound connections between the exhibition's title and their own work. The exhibition offers a window into their personal struggles and creative narratives, serving as an ode to the notion that although we set out to reach a destination, paths diverge, and that’s ok. It stands as a celebration of the artistic process, which often mirrors our own desires and aspirations. For some, it's a battle within their practice, as they grapple with the tension between ambition and reality, seeking to capture the essence of their desires on canvas or in sculpture. For others, it's the creative narratives expertly interwoven into their work, providing a glimpse into the inner workings of their minds as they reveal a world where desires are not always realised.
‘You Can't Always Get What You Want’ offers a complex insight into the relationship between human yearning and the tangible realities of life. Profound insight into the human experience and the multitude of ways artists express the universal truth that sometimes, we don’t get what we want.
